Ashley Woodson, PhDAssistant Professor of Urban Education


Ashley N. Woodson is an Assistant Professor of Urban Education and Instruction and Learning at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research explores the racial, gendered, sexual and religious dimensions of Black adolescents' civic experience. She is particularly interested in how young Black people identify civic heroes, and the community institutions they rely on for civic support. Her work has been published in Social Education, Theory and Research in Social Education, the Journal of Lesbian Studies and Urban Education. Ashley collects abstract Black art that reminds her of the Harlem Renaissance, and is an avid fan of 1990s R&B.
