Biography

Heather B. Cunningham is a Visiting Clinical Assistant Professor and CUE’s online teaching and learning manager. Dr. Cunningham’s primary work at CUE involves creating online professional development for teachers and mentors working in urban 6-12 settings, and serving as a course instructor for pre-service teachers in the Urban Education Certificate program. A 2015 PhD graduate of Pitt’s School of Education, Dr. Cunningham’s dissertation research examined what pre-service teachers say they learned about intercultural competence in a K-12 international school that can help them support students in U.S. urban settings. Her professional career has also included teaching for over a decade in urban and bilingual K-12 classrooms, working as an educator in the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Costa Rica, and serving as a training and materials development specialist for two USAID-funded education projects in Malawi.
